What are the Chakras?
The Sanskrit word chakra translates to a “wheel” or “disk.” In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras that align along the spine, starting from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.1
Chakras store the energy of thoughts, feelings, memories, experiences, and actions. Chakra healing refers to the idea that when all of our chakras are open, energy can run through them freely, and harmony exists between the body, mind, and spirit, creating a sense of overall well-being.
Don’t worry if this sounds “woo-woo” to you at first. Honestly, it did to me, too. Now that I’ve done more research, though, I understand that this is all about holistic connection. Let’s dig in.
Third Eye Chakra
The Sanskrit word for Third Eye Chakra is “Ajna” which means “command” and “perceiving.”
Universal Color: Indigo
Location: Center of the forehead between your eyebrows
Associated Body Parts: Head, eyes, pituitary gland, pineal gland
The Third Eye Chakra is the center of openness and imagination.
Open Chakra: Your intuition is your constant guide that you trust. You have a strong sense of your own inner truth and you listen to and follow it as it guides you on your life path. You act in confidence based on your intuition. 2
Closed Chakra: You feel disconnected from your intuition. You feel lost when it comes to your own spiritual purpose and path in life. You turn to others for validation and permission to move forward in your life. You get headaches and often feel tension in your brow area. 2
When our Third Eye Chakra is not in balance, we may experience the following physical & emotional manifestations: inability to see the bigger picture, lack of vision for the future, a feeling of being stuck, indulging in fantasies, and lack of clarity. ⠀
