Recipe of the Week

I picked up Primal Kitchen’s Buffalo Sauce during my last trip to Costco and made Cauliflower Wings in the Air Fryer… oh, my goodness… absolutely delicious! 

My family and I enjoyed them so much that we had them two nights in a row! They are incredibly flavorful, filling, and super easy to make. We tossed in some leftover carrot coins in one of the batches and they ended up being Emma’s favorite.

Mindfulness Practice

I had dinner with a friend last night and we discussed the mindfulness practice of “Connect and Redirect.” (Yes, these are the things I love talking about.)

I first learned about this practice during a Parent & Child Mindfulness Course I took with Emma. The concept is from the book, The Whole Brain Child. 

In a nutshell, what this concept means is that when a child is overwhelmed and feeling all the feels, it’s more helpful to first connect to their emotional right brain and empathize with them, THEN redirect them to the more logical decision making left brain.

“It’s crucial to keep in mind that no matter how nonsensical and frustrating our child’s feelings may seem to us, they are real and important to our child. It’s vital that we treat them as such in our response.” 

By connecting with your child and engaging with them emotionally, they’ll feel seen and heard. 

Connect with your child’s right brain – Engage emotionally and feel what your child is feeling.

  • Once you are attuned – truly listen.
  • Let your child tell the story of what happened.
  • Then, begin solving the problem, which engages the left brain.

    I encourage you to experiment with this approach. It has worked incredibly well with Emma… and adults!
