Slowing Down & Savoring:  Simple Touches That Make Life More Special

I’ve always valued efficiency—efficiency with time, efficiency with money, efficiency with energy. It’s how I’ve approached most of life: get it done, get it done well, and get it done fast.

But lately, I’ve been experimenting with something new: slowing down. Not forever, not in every moment, but enough to savor more of the life I already have. Enough to notice the little things that make ordinary days feel sacred.

This idea was sparked recently when I watched a YouTube video from Dr. Sarah Nicholls in the UK. She shared 30 ways to romanticize life—to make the everyday more wholesome, more beautiful. Her voice was soothing, her surroundings calm and uncluttered. Something in me said, Yes. I want more of this.

So I’ve started trying small, almost effortless touches that make my day richer:

  • Growing an herb. I’m starting with basil. It feels good to care for something and then taste the reward.
  • Spa water in a beautiful glass. Cucumber and strawberry slices served in a lovely glass turn simple hydration into a little luxury.
  • Wildflowers in a canning jar. My mom gave me Sage Lavender, and it feels wild and free, with a sturdiness store-bought flowers can’t match.
  • Shower steamers. (Psst…we’re now selling these at Nourish events!) A simple shower turns into a little spa moment.
  • Adding crystals to plants. I place crystals from my Rose Water bottles and roller blends into my houseplants and landscaping. It’s like tucking little treasures into nature.
  • Morning coffee + journaling before an event. It makes me feel grounded before the joyful chaos.
  • Nightly stretching. A love letter to my body before sleep.
  • Riding my e-bike. I wave to everyone. Sunshine on my skin, wind in my hair—it’s pure giddiness.
  • Walking under the moonlight. No phone, no music, just me and the night.
  • Small surprises. I once bought a used puzzle and found the previous owner had put all the edge pieces in a separate bag. It felt like a gift from a stranger.

These moments don’t take much time. They don’t cost much, either. But they shift the texture of my day. They help me feel more present, more connected—to my surroundings, to others, to myself.

I’m still learning how to do this. How to slow down in a way that feels nourishing, not forced. How to choose small rituals over autopilot.

If you, too, have a tendency to rush from task to task, I invite you to join me in experimenting. Try one little thing today that makes life feel just a bit more special. Open a window while you eat breakfast and let in fresh morning air. Write a note by hand with your favorite pen. Step outside and really look at the sky.

Let’s learn to savor together.

xoxo, Jamie

Workout of the Week

Slowing down doesn’t mean standing still—it can also mean moving with intention.

This week, I tried two new strength training routines from Heather Robertson on YouTube (one upper body, one lower body), and they were the perfect mix of variety and focus.

I love finding fresh workouts that keep my body strong and my mind engaged—it’s another way to savor taking care of myself.

Recipe of the Week

Mediterranean Tuna Noodle Casserole

This cozy classic gets a flavorful upgrade with Mediterranean touches—think tender potatoes, briny capers, and rich olives—plus a homemade white sauce that’s lighter and tastier than canned soup.

Inspired by France yet simple enough for a weeknight, it’s comfort food worth slowing down to savor.
