Movement as a Love Note to Your Body

Movement as a Love Note to Your Body
Movement is one of the most beautiful gifts we can give ourselves. Not the kind of movement that feels forced, punishing, or tied to “shoulds” — but the kind that feels like joy, freedom, and a quiet little love note to the body, mind, and soul.
I like to think of movement as an opportunity rather than a chore. It’s not one more thing on the to-do list. It’s one more way to enrich the body, lighten the spirit, and remind ourselves that we are alive and capable. Movement doesn’t have to mean a formal workout or hours at the gym. It can be tiny, ordinary, in-the-moment choices that add up to something powerful.
Here are some of the ways I sprinkle movement into my day:
- I take short walks, just 8–15 minutes, a few times a day. These little reset walks give me energy and clarity.
- If an errand is close enough, I ride my bike instead of driving.
- At big parking lots (hello, Target and Costco), I park far away and enjoy the bonus steps.
- I stretch every night. Here’s a favorite 15-minute stretch video if you’d like to try it, too: Stretch Video.
- I love “walk & talks” with friends instead of coffee dates.
- Between matches at volleyball tournaments, Scott and I walk together.
- I join neighbors when they’re walking — even if it’s just around the cul-de-sac.
- When waiting on Emma, I’ll sneak in a few wall pushups. (Tiny pockets of strength add up!)
- I use my “Might as Well” mantra for household chores: instead of letting things pile up, I take each item where it belongs right away — more stairs = more steps.
- And here are some of Scott’s favorites:
- On workdays, he walks to the fitness room and does 10 pull-ups.
- He often takes his lunch breaks at the park or beach and enjoys a walk.
- Movement also becomes more fun when I pair it with things I enjoy: I only let myself listen to favorite podcasts while walking or doing dishes. That way, movement feels like a treat rather than a task.
All these little choices aren’t about burning calories or “earning” anything. They’re about honoring this body that carries me through life. They’re about energy, joy, and creating space to breathe. They’re about caring for my spirit just as much as my muscles.
When we see movement as sacred — as a way of saying thank you to our bodies — it changes everything. Suddenly, movement isn’t a punishment. It’s a privilege. It’s a daily celebration of what we get to do, not what we have to do.
So here’s your invitation: find one small, joyful way to move today. Maybe it’s a stretch before bed, a dance in the kitchen, or a walk around the block. Let it feel light. Let it feel good. Let it be love.
xoxo,
Jamie

Recipe of the Week
For nearly 20 years, it’s been my summer tradition to make this Roasted Tomato Soup with fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes.
This week, my parents gifted me several pounds of their garden’s sweetest tomatoes — and you can taste that love in every spoonful.
Slow-roasted and deeply flavorful, this soup is pure summer comfort in a bowl.
Live well. Be kind.
