I know I wasn't for most of my life. Then, six years ago, I started learning about the practices of mindful self-compassion and it changed everything.
I am now so kind to myself that I consider it one of my greatest strengths.
Here are a few of the ways that I practice self-kindness:
- I set healthy boundaries. I protect my energy and say "no" when something doesn't align with my wellbeing.
- I listen to my body and rest when I am tired.
- I nourish myself with healthy foods.
- I practice gratitude:
- I speak kindly to myself. I've learned how to identify my "inner critic" and recognize that it's just trying to protect me.
- I laugh and prioritize joy.
- I move mindfully. While I enjoy a great workout, I make sure to listen to my body's needs and back off when I'm not feeling my best. I also stretch every night, which feels like a love letter to my body.
- I am learning to let go of perfectionism and people-pleasing.
- I "unplug" regularly.
- I prioritize sleep.
- I recognize my worth.
Small acts of self-kindness add up to big changes over time. The gentler I am with myself, the more balance, joy, and resilience I feel in my life.

Nourish Pick of the Week
