What a Wedding Weekend Taught Me
About Living with Intention 💫
Last weekend, my family and I packed up the car and headed to Detroit for a wedding. While it was a short trip, it gave me so much to think about. I came home feeling both inspired and grounded—like I had been gently reminded of what matters most.
Even before we arrived, the theme of intentionality had begun to unfold. During the drive, we listened to a powerful podcast about finding your purpose. One idea that really stayed with me?
Purpose isn’t something you find once and keep forever. It’s something you live into—by using your passion in service of others. It’s about collecting the moments, connecting the dots, and deciding who you want to be in the world. (More on that next week.)
That idea wove itself through the entire weekend.
We stayed in an Airbnb, and once again I was struck by how freeing it feels to live simply. No clutter. Just the essentials. It reminded me how much space (mental and physical) we can reclaim when we let go of the excess.
We brought a cooler full of good-for-you foods—fresh fruits, veggies, protein, and green juices. The fridge was a rainbow of real nourishment. And I was proud of us for fueling our bodies with care. Even better? My family was just as into it as I was.
We celebrated love. And we danced—joyfully, wildly, together. One couple on the dance floor had been married for 52 years. Can you imagine? Their presence was a beautiful reminder of what it looks like to keep choosing each other through the seasons of life.
We explored Detroit and were delighted to find it beautiful—full of sculptures, gardens, kind people, and a sparkling riverfront with Canada right across the water. It was a powerful reminder to be careful about the narratives we accept. Sometimes, we don’t know a place (or a person) until we experience it for ourselves.
And yes, there were vulnerable moments, too.
Packing for the trip, I realized (again) that I don’t love most of my clothes. I buy them because they’re a “good deal” instead of because they feel like me. I want to change that. I want to invest in fewer things that I truly love—things that reflect the version of myself I want to live into.
And yes, I still care too much about how I look and what others might think. Ugh. But that’s why I’m so grateful for my people—the ones who love me whether I’m in heels or sneakers (which I changed into at 11:00 p.m. because back pain 😄).
So here’s what I’m carrying forward from this weekend:
✨ Live intentionally.
🥗 Nourish your body with care.
🕺 Dance often.
🧺 Let go of what doesn’t serve you.
👗 Choose what feels like you.
💛 Show up for others.
🧭 Trust your instincts.
🌟 Be exactly who you are.
That’s more than enough.
Wishing you a week filled with clarity, courage, and connection.
xoxo,
Jamie
