From a Dented Car to a Full Heart
Note from Jamie
I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
From a Dented Car to a Full Heart
Last week, I shared a little love note to my car—my Acura RDX.
I wrote about how I used to dream about it. How, for a long time, it represented something just out of reach. And how meaningful it felt to finally sit in the driver’s seat and think, this is mine.
There was so much gratitude in that moment.
And then… yesterday, I drove it into our mailbox.
Not my finest moment.
I wish I could tell you I handled it with immediate perspective—but the truth is, it stung. I felt frustrated. A little embarrassed. And if I’m being honest, a bit heavy thinking about the unexpected expense, especially in a season where we’re being really mindful with money.
I let myself feel all of that. Because that’s part of being human, too.
But this morning, everything shifted.
I learned that a dear friend of mine lost her mom.
I’ve had the chance to meet her mom a handful of times over the years, and she was truly one of those people you don’t forget—warm, joyful, full of light. The kind of presence that makes you feel instantly at ease.
My friend shared a tribute this morning, and as I read her words, I could feel the depth of their bond—the love, the closeness, the irreplaceable connection between them.
And just like that… my perspective changed.
The dent in my car?
The mailbox?
The inconvenience?
They all softened.
Because when you’re reminded of something as profound as loss, everything else finds its rightful place.
I’ll get the car fixed.
We’ll figure out the money.
Life will move forward, just as it always does.
But moments like this gently (and sometimes abruptly) bring us back to what really matters.
People.
Connection.
Love.
The conversations we get to have.
The laughter we don’t think twice about in the moment.
The simple gift of being here with the people we care about.
So today, I’m holding both things:
The very human feelings of messing up and wishing I could undo a moment…
And the deeper knowing that this is just a small blip in the grand, beautiful, messy timeline of a life.
We will figure it out. We always do.
And in the meantime, I’m choosing to gently shift my focus back to what matters most.
Maybe this is your little nudge today, too—
To reach out.
To say the thing.
To soak in a moment you might normally rush past.
Because at the end of the day, it’s never really about the car.
It’s about the people we get to share the ride with.
xoxo,
Jamie

Recipe of the Week
This BBQ "Chicken Crust" Pizza is a fun, satisfying twist on pizza and an easy way to pack in a lot of protein.
The chicken crust bakes up golden and sturdy, then gets topped with smoky BBQ sauce, melty cheese, and just the right amount of crunch from red onion and bacon.
It’s cozy, craveable, and seriously delicious.
Live well. Be kind.
