When Resentment Shows Up

Note from Jamie

I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.

When Resentment Shows Up

Last week, one of my teammates opened her heart to me. She shared that she had been working so hard and wasn’t sure if we were noticing everything she was doing. She admitted she felt underappreciated.

I was so grateful she trusted me enough to say that out loud. We talked it through, and I learned how I can be better moving forward.

But after our conversation, I noticed something within myself—I had been feeling underappreciated, too.

This is the time of year when I work seven days a week. It’s such a fruitful season, but also a demanding one. And if I’m not careful to take really good care of myself, exhaustion creeps in. Emotional, physical, and mental tiredness starts to blur my perspective.

And that’s when resentment shows up.

I found myself scanning for things to be resentful about—little things here, there, everywhere. And soon, resentment was burning inside of me, in both my personal and professional life.

On Monday morning, I opened my journal and let it all spill out. I didn’t edit. I didn’t hold back. I just poured the rawness of resentment onto the page.

And then something beautiful happened.

Once I had let it all out, my mind softened. I began to see the truth I couldn’t see when resentment was clouding my vision:

My team appreciates me.
My customers appreciate me.
My family appreciates me.
My friends appreciate me.

The resentment lost its grip.

It became clear that what we all long for is the same thing: to feel seen and appreciated. We give so much of ourselves—to our work, our families, our communities. We want to know that our actions matter. That our sacrifices are noticed. That our efforts are worth it.

Here’s what I’m learning about triggering emotions:

If we avoid them, they fester and grow.
If we face them, we can move through them and release them.

So instead of pushing resentment (or any heavy emotion) down, I’ve been practicing sitting with it. Letting myself feel it fully, even when it’s uncomfortable. And then, when I’ve felt it, I find I can finally let it go.

The rest of the week felt lighter. I felt more fully appreciated and valued. I also started sending messages to friends, letting them know I see them. That I notice how hard they’re working. That I value them. The responses back have been beautiful—full of warmth and connection.

And that’s what I want to focus on: the good in people. The truth that we are all working hard and doing our best. That it feels really good to be acknowledged. And that others are craving appreciation just as much as we are.

So here’s my encouragement for you this week: notice someone’s effort. Tell them what you appreciate about them. Watch how that gratitude ripples back to you tenfold.

Because when we choose appreciation over resentment, we all feel a little more seen, a little more connected, and a whole lot lighter.

xoxo,

Jamie

Nourish Pick of the Week

Be Well for Hands

At this busy time of year, I’m constantly out and about—at events, running errands, and juggling full days. That’s when I reach for one of my essentials: Be Well for Hands.

It’s our natural take on hand sanitizer—powerful, effective, and safe—without the harshness. It cleanses when I don’t have easy access to soap and water, and the best part? It leaves my hands feeling soft and moisturized, not dry and stripped.

And because I’m me, it also had to smell amazing. 🌿✨ Each spritz is fresh and uplifting, so it feels less like a chore and more like a little act of self-care.

If you’re in busy mode like me, this is one of those small-but-mighty tools that makes life easier and more enjoyable.
