This Season, I’m Practicing “Good Enough”

This Season, I’m Practicing “Good Enough”

I will never regret spending so much time with my sister before she died. Never. Those months were a sacred pause—one of the few times in my life when I allowed everything else to fall away.

Before she passed, I told myself that when she was gone, I would put the pedal to the metal and accelerate on all things Nourish. And I have. I really have. And I’m tired.

As many of you know, the holiday season is the most important time of year for small businesses like mine. November and December are our lifeblood—the months that determine whether we get to keep going. That reality can feel both motivating and… heavy.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been feeling that heaviness. I’m not sleeping enough. I’m working 12+ hour days, seven days a week. I can feel my people-pleasing tendencies creeping in—the familiar voice whispering, “Do more. Push harder. Everything depends on you.”

Last night, I had a small panic attack at an event when I started running low on our Owala lip balm holders. I’ve been stalking tracking numbers like they hold the key to my survival. I’m waking up early to work, working late to catch up… and then repeating the cycle all over again.

AGGHHHH. (Truly. From the depths of my soul.)

So this week, I sat myself down and asked: What would kindness look like right now? What would support me—really support me—through this busy season?

These are the non-negotiables I’m holding close. I can’t do everything, but I can do these:

  • Prioritize sleep. Even if the to-do list is screaming at me.
  • Move my body—workouts that feel good, not punishing.
  • Stretch at night to help my nervous system settle.
  • Eat nourishing foods and stay hydrated.
  • Get outside once a day for a short walk, even if it’s five minutes.
  • Journal in the morning.
  • Write a few gratitudes at night. (My usual whole page has turned into 4–5 things—and that’s perfect for right now.)
  • Release perfection. Some things can be “good enough.” Not everything needs my A+ effort.

These are my anchors—my way of coming home to myself in a season that can so easily sweep me away.

I’m also practicing something I’ve taught for years but am now needing more than ever: mindful self-compassion.

Acknowledge: I’m feeling really pressured right now.
Common Humanity: Of course I am. Anyone in my position would feel this way. This is simply being human.
Kindness: Given the givens, what would feel like care? (For me, it’s the list above.)

And when I soften into that kindness—even for just a few breaths—the pressure loosens its grip. I remember I don’t need to be superhuman to move through this season. I just need to stay connected to myself.

If you’re in your own busy season—emotionally, professionally, or otherwise—I gently invite you to ask yourself the same question:

What would feel like kindness to you right now?

Write it down. Make it visible. Let those things become your non-negotiables. Not because you “should,” but because you deserve care even when life feels chaotic—especially when life feels chaotic.

We don’t get extra credit for burning ourselves to the ground.
But we do get stronger, steadier, and more grounded when we choose gentleness, honesty, and compassion along the way.

I’m reminding myself of that every single day.

And if you need the reminder too:

You’re doing your best.
You’re allowed to rest.
And “good enough” is often more than enough.

xoxo,

Jamie
