This summer, I’m sharing all sorts of things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. I’m just sharing things that are helping me along my journey.

I'm dedicating this issue to SLEEP. Something that I bet most of us wish we got more of.

I have so many exciting things happening in my life right now that I wake up in the middle of the night to "think all my thinks." I plan and rehearse (and rehearse again) all of my next life steps. At 1:00 a.m. Then again at 3:00 a.m. And, so on.

I've recognized that to sleep better, I need tools that will help relax my brain and my thoughts. Here's what I've been using.

  • Yoga Nidra - A form of guided meditation that is also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. My favorite Yoga Nidra teacher is Jennifer Piercy on Insight Timer.
  • Note Taking - If my mind spirals and I keep rehearsing the same thoughts, I sit up and write down everything on my mind. This practice reassures me that I have it all down on paper and I can relax and release.
  • Acceptance - I learned about acceptance in my Mindful Self-Compassion training. "What we resist, persists." I practice surrendering to the tossing & turning and trust that sleep will come.
  • Stretching - Sometimes, I just need a distraction from my thoughts, so I sit up and do gentle stretches in my bed.
  • Slow Down - I intentionally slow down my mind during the day so that my mind trusts that I don't have to wait until night to have peaceful moments.
