I have always loved fitness.
As a young girl, I excitedly mimicked the diagram of aerobic moves that accompanied my mom's vinyl albums.
I brought my fitness VHS tapes to the basement of my college dorm where I had more room to do jumping jacks, grapevines, and burpees.
I had over 400 workout DVDs - Jillian Michaels, Billy Blanks (Tae-Bo), Denise Austin, Bob Harper, Cathy Friedrich, Kathy Smith, Tony Horton (P90X), Jackie Warner, and Michelle Dozois were among my favorites.
Today, I'm grateful to have access to an unlimited number of fitness videos on YouTube. (Penny Barnshaw is currently my favorite creator.)
Aerobics, strength training, running, boxing, yoga, Pilates, barre, roller skating, roller blading, swimming, rowing, biking, hiking... You name it, I've done it.
(Not to mention, my aerobics instructor came to my wedding!)
I can narrate my life through my fitness journey because moving my body has always brought me such great joy. When other things in my life felt uncertain, I could always count on the rhythm of a workout to ground me, remind me of my strength, and give me a sense of accomplishment.
Fitness is my way of celebrating my body, honoring what it can do, and pushing it toward what it might achieve.
