NOURISH TOGETHER - WEEKLY NEWSLETTER - 10/10/24
Note from Jamie
I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
In preparation for a podcast I recently recorded with Experience Milwaukee, I thought back on my many years in this great city.
Initially, I was hesitant to reflect back because of the loud voice of my negativity bias - the human propensity to give more weight in our minds to things that go wrong than to the things that go right.
Meaning, the hurts of my past were overriding the joys. (Our brains do this to protect us from danger and threats.)
I decided to intentionally spend time "re-remembering" different parts of my life, and it has been a wonderful exercise for me. I journal about different time periods in my life and write down the joys. I then look through photos from that time period to jog even more good memories. It's been a healing practice for me.
I journaled again this morning and focused on re-remembering my college years. Now, instead of remembering the loneliness of not quite knowing who I was and what I wanted in life, I remember the road trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, the 70's-themed sorority dance, the many nights eating Tostitos chips & queso while watching movies with my best friend, and the year I fell in love with California and spent a semester there studying fashion marketing.
Speaking of California... Here's the link to the podcast if you want to listen to it. I introduce myself by remixing the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. Enjoy!
