My Kind of Fun
Note From Jamie
I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
My Kind of Fun
Lately, I’ve been having so much fun with fitness.
Not the punishing, should-do kind of fitness. Not the checking-a-box kind. The playful kind. The energizing kind. The kind that reminds me I live in a body capable of movement, growth, and joy.
After my recent DEXA scan, I learned a lot about my body. Overall, my bone mineral density is good, but one thing stood out: my leg bones are significantly stronger than my upper body.
My naturopathic doctor recommended I start wearing a weighted vest—10 pounds to begin. I’ll admit, I was hesitant. I worried it might aggravate my lower back or worsen my posture. But to my surprise, it’s done the opposite.
Each morning, I wear it for a short 15-minute walk, and I can absolutely feel the difference. My heart rate rises more quickly, my shoulders naturally draw back, and my core has to engage more as I move. It feels strong and supportive—like a gentle nudge toward resilience.
I also found my way back to hot yoga.
Years ago, I loved practicing regularly, but after being treated for a blood clot in my shoulder, I stepped away while learning how to navigate my new normal. Walking back into that warm room felt emotional in the best way.
And wow… it felt good to be back.
I could feel how much stronger I am now than I was four years ago. About a year ago, I began lifting heavier weights consistently, and I know that work has changed me. (Here's a link to the article I wrote about Dr. Stacy Sims and why strength training matters so much for women.)
I usually work out at home, so being back in community—with other people who care about wellness and movement—felt nourishing in its own way.
And the heat? I loved it. I love pouring sweat. I always leave feeling accomplished and clear.
Then for Mother’s Day, Scott and Emma surprised me with a rebounder—a mini fitness trampoline.
I had read about the benefits for lymphatic flow, cardiovascular health, and joint-friendly movement, but I wasn’t prepared for one thing:
How FUN it is.
I’ve been doing rebounding workouts on YouTube and just a few sessions in, I can already feel my body responding. I’ve tried both cardio routines and gentler “health bouncing,” and every time I finish, I feel lighter and happier.
I’ve also returned to hiking at Lynden Sculpture Garden. Their outer loop has become one of my favorite places to walk. The trees are leafing out, spring is waking everything up, and being in nature feels like medicine I didn’t know I needed.
Lately, I’ve been feeling deeply grateful.
Grateful that I can move the way I do. Grateful that my body lets me try new things. Grateful that healing, strength, and joy are still available in every season.
The other day, I was talking with Scott about whether I have enough fun in life.
I may not be the party girl. I may not be the concert girl. I may never be someone who “chills” particularly well.
But these last few weeks? I’ve realized I’ve been having a lot of fun.
My kind of fun.
And maybe that’s the real lesson.
Fun doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s version. It doesn’t have to be loud or flashy or impressive. It can look like a weighted walk at sunrise. A yoga class that feels like coming home. Jumping on a trampoline on your patio. A quiet hike among blooming trees.
Your fun may look completely different than mine.
But whatever it is, I hope you make room for it.
Because joy counts.
Play matters.
And feeling alive is reason enough.
xoxo,
Jamie
Inspiration

Nourish Pick of the Week
One of my favorite warm-weather essentials. I created this spray for all the outdoor moments we love—walks, hikes, patio nights, and backyard gatherings.
It works beautifully, smells fresh and clean, and is made with ingredients you can feel good about using.
Recipe of the Week
Almond Butter Pad Thai with Miracle Noodles
This delicious recipe was shared with me by my naturopathic doctor, and I couldn’t wait to pass it along.
Miracle noodles (made from konjac root) are rich in soluble fiber that may help support healthy cholesterol levels.
Paired with lean protein, colorful veggies, and a creamy almond butter sauce, this meal is satisfying, blood sugar friendly, and full of flavor. A nourishing way to care for your heart and feel well-fed, too.
Live well. Be kind.
