Maybe You Don't Have to Try Harder

I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
Maybe You Don't Have to Try Harder
Last night, I had the honor of being in a room filled with incredible women.
Women leading organizations. Building businesses. Serving their communities. Making an impact.
I was at a women's leadership event, where I had a table to share Nourish products and tell people a little more about my business.
The hosts very graciously invited each of the vendors to introduce themselves to the room.
So, of course, I talked about Nourish.
I shared a little about our products, how the business began, and what we're building.
But the thing I most wanted to tell these women about wasn't a product.
It was mindful self-compassion.
I shared that I went through a difficult period in my life that eventually led me to discover mindful self-compassion.
Learning how to be kind to myself changed everything for me.
And because it has made such a profound difference in my own life, a big part of my mission now is sharing what I've learned and encouraging other women to be a little kinder to themselves, too.
I encouraged the women in the room to sign up for this newsletter.
And guess what?
Many of them did.
Welcome, ladies! What a treat to have you here. I loved spending time with you last night. ❤️
And then I got home.
And I thought...
Oh, gosh. Tomorrow's newsletter needs to be AWESOME.
Because not only had I encouraged these women to sign up...
I had also, in a moment of what I will generously call confidence, humble-bragged about some recent recognition I received. 😂
The pressure is ON.
And isn't that funny?
Here I was, standing in front of a room full of accomplished women, talking about self-compassion...
And then I went home and immediately put pressure on myself to write the perfect newsletter for them.
It made me laugh.
And it also made me pause.
Because I've been feeling a lot of pressure lately.
Preparing for the holiday season—the most important season of the year for a small business like Nourish.
Leading my team.
Raising my daughter.
Financial pressures.
Preparing for a workshop I'm facilitating next week.
And all of the other invisible expectations we carry around with us.
I've spent many hours preparing for this workshop, and there are still many more hours I want to spend making my message better.
My presentation is already excellent.
And yet there's a little voice in my head saying:
It needs to be more.
More valuable.
More insightful.
More helpful.
More memorable.
And this morning, as I journaled about all of the places I'm feeling pressure, I remembered a quote that has been bringing me so much comfort:
"What's meant to be will always find its way."
When I first read it, I felt something in me exhale.
Because maybe I don't have to get everything exactly right.
Maybe I can't mess it up.
Maybe I can breathe in.
Breathe out.
And trust.
Trust that the people who need to hear something from my workshop will hear it.
Trust that the people who signed up for this newsletter will take from it whatever they need.
Trust that some messages will resonate deeply with people and others won't.
That's not in my hands.
What's in my hands is being real.
And that brings me back to a conversation I had at the event last night...
I met a woman who is really struggling with insomnia.
She shared with me the many things she's tried. She asked what I had for sleep because she wanted to add something else to her routine.
I could see the desperate hope in her eyes.
That maybe there was one perfect product out there.
One potion.
One supplement.
One thing she just hadn't tried yet.
And if she could just find it, maybe she'd finally sleep.
I immediately recognized that feeling.
After my daughter was born, I went through a period of terrible insomnia.
I remember trying everything.
The right products.
The right supplements.
The right sheets.
The right routines.
And, honestly, probably trying way too hard to make myself sleep.
But the answer wasn't in finding the perfect potion.
And the answer most certainly wasn't trying harder.
Because here's what I know about so many of the people who are here with me:
You try really hard.
You give your all.
You care deeply.
You put your stamp of excellence on everything you do.
And when something isn't working, your instinct may be to work harder.
Try harder.
Do more.
Fix it.
Perfect it.
But what if the answer isn't to try harder?
What if the answer is to trust?
Trust that we don't have to be perfect.
Trust that we don't have to resonate with everyone.
Trust that we don't have to be everyone's favorite.
Trust that the right people will hear our message.
Trust that we can show up as ourselves—honest, imperfect, real—and that can be enough.
We don't need to put more pressure on ourselves to be more.
We can simply be us.
And let what's meant to be find its way.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Trust.
xoxo,
Jamie

Recipe of the Week
I’m officially in my Poblano Pepper Era, and this recipe is a total winner.
It has flavor galore, comes together easily, and—most importantly—Scott, Emma, and I all loved it. That’s a family dinner win in my book!
I’m definitely adding this one into our regular rotation.
Live well. Be kind.
