Love Others... And Love Yourself, Too

Note from Jamie

I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.

Love Others... And Love Yourself, Too

Have you ever realized that one of your greatest strengths may have quietly become one of your greatest challenges?

That was me recently.

During a quiet time of prayer, I realized that my generous heart had slowly drifted into something else. Somewhere along the way, I'd become far more comfortable giving than receiving.

Receiving support.

Receiving kindness.

Receiving abundance.

Receiving without feeling like I had to immediately give something back.

For as long as I can remember, generosity has been one of my greatest joys. I love sharing, helping, teaching, encouraging, and giving. But somewhere along the way, my generosity had started to blur into something else. I was giving so freely that I wasn't always honoring my own worth in the process.

During that time of prayer, one thought became crystal clear:

Loving people doesn't always mean giving things away.

That sentence stopped me in my tracks.

I'd been confusing generosity with love.

Love is so much bigger.

Love is listening with your whole heart.

Love is offering encouragement when someone needs it most.

Love is sharing your knowledge so others can grow.

Love is making someone feel seen.

Love is showing up with kindness, warmth, and intention.

Sometimes, love looks like giving.

Sometimes, love looks like receiving.

And sometimes, love looks like creating healthy boundaries so that you can continue serving others without emptying yourself.

That realization inspired me to do something practical. I sat down and created my own personal guidelines for giving.

It wasn't about becoming less generous.

It was about becoming more loving—including toward myself.

As women, so many of us have been taught that putting ourselves last is somehow noble. We overextend. We over-give. We overcompensate. We convince ourselves that saying "yes" to everything is kindness.

But real love isn't rooted in fear.

It's rooted in truth.

The truth is that you're allowed to receive.

You're allowed to be supported.

You're allowed to be paid fairly for your gifts and talents.

You're allowed to create boundaries that protect your peace.

One lesson I've been carrying with me lately is to simply focus on the next right thing. We don't have to solve our whole lives today.

We don't have to become perfect overnight.

Just the next right thing.

For me, that next right thing was creating healthier boundaries around giving so I could honor both the people I serve and the business I've been entrusted to build.

Maybe your next right thing looks different.

Maybe it's asking for help.

Maybe it's accepting a compliment without brushing it away.

Maybe it's saying "no" without guilt.

Or maybe it's simply believing, for the very first time, that you are worthy of receiving.

Because you are.

And here's what I'm discovering: when we learn to love ourselves while serving others, everyone benefits. Our giving becomes more intentional. Our joy returns. Our relationships become healthier. And we have so much more of ourselves to offer—not from obligation, but from an overflowing heart.

Wherever you are today, I hope you'll remember this:

You don't have to choose between loving others and loving yourself.

The healthiest, most beautiful life is built on both.

xoxo,

Jamie
