Little by Little
Note from Jamie
I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
Little by Little
I recently listened to an episode of the Mel Robbins Podcast featuring Clea and Joanna from the famed organizing show The Home Edit. I enjoyed the entire conversation, but one idea really stuck with me:
The most important part of organizing isn't the organizing. It's the edit.
It’s the part where you decide what stays—and what goes.
Clea and Joanna offered three simple questions to ask when going through your belongings:
Do I need it?
Do I use it?
Do I love it?
And if it doesn’t fit into one of those categories, let it go.
Not SHOULD I need it?
Not SHOULD I use it?
Not SHOULD I love it?
DO I need it? DO I use it? DO I love it?
Doesn’t that feel freeing?
I listened to the podcast on my way to a makers market. During the event, I had a few little pockets of time, so I pulled out a small bin of odds and ends that I bring with me to every market.
I started asking the questions.
Do I need it?
Do I use it?
Do I love it?
I ended up with a nice little pile to throw away.
The next morning, I cleaned out my wallet. More receipts. Wrappers. Business cards.
Again, a little pile.
And, surprisingly, it felt freeing.
Especially the business cards.
I realized how much weight I had been carrying around in the belief that I should follow up with every person I've ever met. That somehow, that one business card might belong to the person who holds the key to my next big opportunity.
I reminded myself of a mantra I had years ago:
What is meant to be will find me.
Ahhh. Exhale.
I'm starting small.
Because as I move through the little things, I'm gaining momentum to tackle the bigger things.
I've not yet attempted my bookshelves, but I'm going to work through one of them later today.
And I already know some of the stories I'll have to release.
What if this is the book that finally solves my business problem?
What if this biography completely changes my life?
What if I finally open that deck of Happiness Cards and discover the thing I've been missing?
I've always been attracted to the idea of decluttering. I've always loved the word intentional.
Yet if you looked around my house right now, you wouldn't necessarily know it. 😂
In a kind way, I tell myself that I see the potential in everything. That I'm wildly optimistic and hopeful.
But if I'm being really honest, I think there’s a little fear mixed in there, too.
What if this is my big shot?
What if I don't call this person?
What if I don't follow up on this opportunity?
What if I let go of something I might need someday?
And sometimes I realize I haven't even stopped to ask the most important question:
Do I actually want it?
I recently came across a little piece of wisdom that really resonated with me:
Little by little, a little becomes a lot.
I love that.
It reminds me that I don't have to do everything today.
I don't have to completely declutter my house, overhaul my business, answer every email, follow up with every contact, read every book, or figure out every next step.
I just have to do a little.
And then another little.
And another.
Little by little, a little becomes a lot.
There’s a lot happening behind the scenes at Nourish right now. Big decisions that need to be made. Work that needs to be done. Things that are shifting and taking shape.
And when my mind starts to wander, dream, and tangent—as it loves to do—I’m reminding myself to come back to the basics.
Edit what's around me.
Release what no longer serves me.
Make room for what does.
Little by little.
And when I need a little guidance, I'll come back to these three simple questions:
Do I need it?
Do I use it?
Do I love it?
Little by little, a little becomes a lot.
And maybe that's true for more than just our stuff.
Maybe it's true for our lives, too.
xoxo,
Jamie

Recipe of the Week
For over 20 years, it’s been my summer tradition to make this Roasted Tomato Soup with fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes.
This week, my parents gifted me several pounds of their garden’s sweetest tomatoes — and you can taste that love in every spoonful.
Slow-roasted and deeply flavorful, this soup is pure summer comfort in a bowl.
Live well. Be kind.
Jamie
