Note from Jamie

I like to share things that light me up, fill me with joy, and make my life easier. Nothing is sponsored. These are just things that are helping me along my journey.
Give Yourself Permission to Be Delighted
A newsletter I subscribe to recently had the subject line: “10 Things I Recently Tried (and Loved!).”
It sparked a great conversation with Scott about what new things we’ve intentionally tried lately. As we talked, we realized we’ve found a really nice balance between the tried-and-true things we love and expanding our horizons with something new.
To me, trying new things brings a sense of delight.
Here are a few that have delighted me lately.
✨ A Sparkly Clean Start
My car has been covered in salty winter residue for weeks. Every time I climbed in, I cringed a little.
Today I decided to change that.
It was only $1 more to sign up for the unlimited monthly membership at the car wash, so I signed the dotted line. When I drove out and saw my sparkly clean car, I felt my entire energy shift.
It sounds silly, but it made me so happy. I plan to go at least once a week now. There’s something satisfying about taking pride in your ride.
🌊 The Magic of Kombu
My naturopathic doctor recently told me about the power of kombu — a type of seaweed that helps break down the indigestible sugars in beans that can cause gas.
I love beans, but I avoided them for years because they didn’t always agree with my digestion. So I decided to cook a batch with kombu and see what would happen.
It worked! Now black beans, white beans, and hummus are happily back on the menu. Yum.
🏐 Parents vs. Players
I had so much fun playing volleyball with Emma and her team at Appreciation Night. The parents played their daughters.
I was a bit of a one-trick pony with blocking hits — but hey, I did it well.
That night reignited my competitive spirit. Now I’m seriously considering joining a rec basketball team. Wouldn’t that be fun?
☕ A New Kind of Happy Hour
Scott and I have been enjoying a new type of happy hour.
Instead of wine or cocktails, I make us each a warm mug of cacao. We sip and talk about our day. It’s simple, grounding, and something I genuinely look forward to.
We even tried ceremonial cacao this week. While it was fun to experience, we decided we’re going back to our usual cacao powder from Trader Joe’s.
💪 Shaking Up My Fitness Routine
I’ve also been mixing things up with my workouts.
This week I tried a new instructor and pushed myself during a leg workout that was… intense. I only made it through about half the routine, but I was proud of two things:
- Finishing as much as I could
- Knowing when enough was enough
No one needs a back injury to prove a point.
🌟 The Joy of Being a Beginner
While I’m definitely a creature of comfort, I get real joy from trying something new. Learning something new. Stepping outside of my expertise and feeling like a beginner again.
It gives me a fresh appreciation for myself — and for others.
We all have different talents and strengths across so many areas of life. I think that’s incredibly cool.
So here’s my little invitation to you:
In the next few weeks, intentionally try a few new things.
Notice how your world lights up.
How your courage and confidence muscles grow.
How you discover new things about yourself and your world.
Most of all…
Give yourself permission to be delighted.
xoxo,
Jamie

Recipe of the Week
Tender & Juicy Ground Pork Meatloaf with Glaze

Scott, Emma, and I all love a good meatloaf, so we’ve been testing different recipes all winter long. This one is officially a winner.
It’s made with all ground pork, which Emma especially loves, and it comes out incredibly tender and flavorful.
The glaze in the recipe is delicious, but I’ll be honest — I also used Sweet Chili Sauce with every bite.
If you’re in the mood for a cozy, comforting dinner, this one is definitely worth trying.
